WHY FISH OIL?

by Laura J. Larosa on April 7, 2012

Did you know that 90 % of Americans do not get enough omega 3 fatty acids? And, that this is an essential fat that the body can not create itself – we have to get it from our food? The absolute best and most available source of omega 3 is fatty fish. Humans have used fish oil and especially cod liver oil for centuries as a “super food.”

Unless you eat fatty fish (such as wild salmon and sardines) more than three times a week, you are not getting enough of these essential omega 3′s. That’s when it is a good idea to take a fish oil supplement!

Benefits of Omega 3′s:

  • Down-regulates inflammation
  • EPA (one of the omega 3 fatty acids found in fish) supports heart health
  • DHA (the other omega 3 fatty acids found in fish) is thought to play a major role in brain development and function
  • Great for our skin and joints
  • Essential for the function of every single cell in our body
  • Regulate the immune system
  • Studies have shown that people who eat fish oil are less likely to be depressed
  • They have also found that kids who get enough omega 3 also are also less likely to have difficulty reading, writing and behavioral problems
